Green, Pink Line Service Disruptions Extended Due Lake Street Bridge Work

DOWNTOWN — Disruptions to Green and Pink line service in the Loop will continue until Wednesday, which is two days longer then previously anticipated due to complications on the Lake Street Bridge overhaul. Full Green and Pink line service is now scheduled to resume by 4 a.m. Wednesday, the Chicago Department of Transportation and CTA announced. The service was originally expected to be restored by Monday morning, but the deadline was pushed back Sunday. The disruptions are due to the reconstruction of the Lake Street Bridge, which carries the Green and Pink line tracks into the Loop. The “complexity” of work to connect a new bridge leaf to the existing bridge is causing the extended disruption of train service, CDOT announced. Green Line trains will not run between Clinton and Clark/Lake; Pink Line trains will not operate in the Loop due to the work, the CTA previously announced. Shuttle buses will serve Green Line riders between Clinton and Clark/Lake for the duration of the closure. Pink Line riders will be rerouted to transfer to the Blue Line at the Racine stop, according to the CTA’s website. The Green Line will run in two portions during the closure. The western portion along Lake Street will run between Harlem/Lake and Clinton. The southern portion will run in the same direction as the Orange Line and make all Loop stops before looping back to Ashland/63rd and Cottage Grove. The Lake Street Bridge has been closed to cars and pedestrians for the past year as part of a major reconstruction project expected to last through January 2028. Another two-week service outage for the Green and Pink Lines is planned for spring. All CTA train service was suspended in the Loop this weekend to complete track repairs and upgrades at the Loop and Lake Junction, one of the nation’s busiest rail interlockings. That service will resume by 4 a.m. Monday as previously scheduled, the city said Sunday.
