Obesity now rivals and is soon expected to overtake smoking as the leading modifiable cause of cancer. Insofar as bariatric surgery is currently the most effective treatment for obesity, it is unsurprising that patients who undergo surgery have a lower risk of developing an obesity-associated cancer. However, it is less clear whether this benefit extends equally across age and sex.
