Keisha Lance Bottoms Gets Obama Endorsement In A Georgia Race Polls Show Is A Statistical Tie
Former President Barack Obama is officially giving his endorsement to Keisha Lance Bottoms as she aims to become Georgia’s next governor. Obama expressed his support in a video he published on Thursday, raving about Bottoms’ experience as mayor, judge and councilmember in Atlanta. “She’s invested in young people, delivered historic pay raises for police officers and firefighters, and balanced the budget without raising taxes,” Obama said in the video. “Now Keisha has a plan to lower costs, expand Medicaid, strengthen rural hospitals, and give communities the option to eliminate grocery taxes.” President @BarackObama has a message for Georgia: he’s standing with Keisha Lance Bottoms.Keisha is ready to bring her experience and leadership to the Governor’s office and deliver for every Georgian. Kerin Swint, a political scientist at Kennesaw State University, told Newsweek the race is “very competitive” as Bottoms faces Republican candidate Rick Jackson, who is getting support from Donald Trump. “Former President Obama will provide a publicity boost, but will not change any votes,” Swint said. William Hatcher, chair and professor of social sciences at Augusta University, said the Georgia race is one of the closest in the country. “The few polls that have been conducted show a statistical tie, as noted, but often do have Jackson with a small lead. On the other hand, the predictive models are showing that Bottoms may have a slight edge,” Hatcher told Newsweek. What are the latest poll numbers in Georgia’s gubernatorial race? The latest numbers from Big Data Poll show Jackson with a slight lead over Bottoms, Newsweek reported. According to the poll, Jackson is leading among 712 registered voters with 47.6 percent of the vote, compared with 45.7 percent for Bottoms. Among 678 likely voters, Jackson has another slight lead, 48.8 percent to 46.7 percent.
