Boot Barn's AI Shopping Tools Strengthen Its Omnichannel Strategy

Boot Barn Holdings, Inc. BOOT is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) shopping tools into its omnichannel strategy, connecting digital capabilities with its stores-first retail model. Its AI-enabled Range Finder and Cassidy, an in-store consumer AI solution, complement the mobile app and WHIP endless-aisle offering. These capabilities support a broader strategy centered on merchandise access, customer engagement and efficient fulfillment across online and physical channels. The company’s digital performance provides an encouraging backdrop. In first-quarter fiscal 2027, e-commerce comparable sales increased 13.4%, driven by double-digit growth at bootbarn.com. Store comparable sales rose 3.8%, bringing consolidated comparable sales growth to 4.7%. Net sales advanced 17.7% year over year to $593.5 million, supported by new store openings and comparable sales gains.Boot Barn’s expanding store network anchors this approach. The retailer opened 27 stores during the quarter, ending with 566 locations across 49 states. Management noted that stores fulfill a large portion of online orders. This arrangement enhances merchandise margins while giving customers access to a broader assortment, reinforcing the network’s role beyond traditional store sales.Strong adoption of buy online, pick up in store and ship-to-store services further supports the strategy. These options help drive store traffic, reduce fulfillment costs and deepen customer engagement. Alongside this infrastructure, AI shopping tools extend the digital experience into stores, adding another way for Boot Barn to connect its channels and make shopping more seamless.Boot Barn projects fiscal 2027 e-commerce comparable sales growth of 11-13% and plans 70 store openings. Boot Barn has not separately quantified the sales or margin contribution of its AI tools. Still, their place within a growing store network and established fulfillment capabilities gives the company another avenue to improve the shopping experience.Boot Barn’s Price Performance, Valuation & EstimatesShares of Boot Barn have lost 33.4% over the past year compared with the industry’s 3.8% decline.Image Source: Zacks Investment ResearchFrom a valuation standpoint, BOOT trades at a trailing price-to-sales ratio of 1.57, above the industry’s average of 1.30.
