West Virginia hospital invests $120K in radiology training

South Charleston, W.Va.-based WVU Medicine Thomas Hospitals is providing $120,000 to support BridgeValley Community & Technical College’s radiologic technology program and its new energized laboratory. Through the Thomas Foundation, the program will receive $40,000 annually for its first three years, according to a Sept. 24 news release. The laboratory allows students to train with equipment and practices that reflect clinical environments. Students can practice radiographic positioning, exposure techniques, radiation protection, patient care procedures and image evaluation under faculty supervision before entering clinical settings. The laboratory’s completion coincides with the radiologic technology program receiving accreditation from the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. BridgeValley also works with Charleston, W.Va.-based Vandalia Health, Montgomery, W.Va.-based Montgomery General Hospital and Madison, W.Va.-based Boone Memorial Hospital to provide clinical learning opportunities for students.
