OPEN - KNIT - Foundations Shawl

Hi! I’m Caroline, and I recently opened Sit a Spell Fibers. The testing period for my first pattern concluded about a week ago or so, and it has been released! I am building a collection of beginner/advanced beginner patterns that are accessible for newer knitters while also being enjoyable to knit for more advanced fiber artists. This shawl is the next step in the Foundations Collection. The Foundations Shawl is a simple heart shaped shawl with purl ridges placed throughout the body of the shawl to create textural interest. I’m a huge texture junkie, so this shawl was fun to design and knit! The layout of the shawl is fairly simple, and progress trackers are included in this pattern to help keep your place if you need to step away from the pattern. This test will be run through a thread in TTP with the pattern and end of test survey being sent via email. Basic information: • Name of pattern: Foundations Shawl • Craft: Knitting • Deadline: October 12, 2026 • Skill level: Beginner • Specific tags for this test: Please make a project page using the test code “TEST-CW-59A35Y”. • Finished Size: 62”x22” (158 cm x 56 cm) • You can either comment in this thread or email me at hello@sitaspellfibers.com to join the test. If you choose to email, please put “Test – Foundations Shawl” in the subject line. You will need to send me your email address either via email or Ravelry so that I can get the pattern to you. • I will let you know if you have been chosen for testing by making a post in the TTP thread. If you would prefer to be notified by message or email, please mention that in your comment! I’ll start choosing testers by September 14th, but am 100% open to adding more testers in later as long as you can finish the project by the deadline. For reference, I knit the sample over the course of 11 days. • Necessary skills include: knit, purl, knitting in the round, sl1wyif, and yo. Materials: • Yarn: DK Weight – ~ 590 yds/540 m. There is a lot of wiggle room for creativity here! The simple stitch pattern works up beautifully on plain yarn, but this is a great opportunity to use variegated yarns as well! • Needles: US 7 (4.50 mm) • Gauge: Gauge is not important for this to be a successful project! I’ve included my gauge in the pattern, but don’t be discouraged if yours is different! • Notions: stitch markers, yarn needle Expectations: Please check in at least once per week! I would prefer that all communication stays on TTP thread, but if email works better for you, you are welcome to send me an email. I am here for any questions you may have! Submit 3 well-lit, clutter free photos over the course of the test: 1 in progress, 1 laid flat, and 1 modeled. Note that these photos will be used to promote the pattern! Follow the pattern and communicate any errors, stitch issues, or lack of clarity. Report total yardage used to create the shawl. Create a project page once you are chosen using test code “TEST-CW-59A35Y”. Answer a survey at the end of the testing. Compensation: Test knitters will receive full access to the final version of the pattern and any future updates!
