Clemson’s Last-Minute Attempt To Scare LSU Out Of Fielding Ex-NFL Players Was Kind Of Pathetic

Clemson Tigers safety Ricardo Jones (6) celebrates after tackling LSU Tigers wide receiver Barion Brown (6) Saturday, Aug. 30, 2025 during the NCAA football game at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina. LSU Tigers won 17-10. For the second straight season, Clemson and LSU are set to square off with one another in Week 1 of the college football season. But this time around, there’s far more drama involved. LSU went into Memorial Stadium last year and walked out 17-10 victory. This year, they’ll host Clemson at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. But the Tigers of Clemson wanted to make it clear to the Tigers of LSU that the host school is risking violating the terms of the game’s contract by fielding former NFL players Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright. Clemson Sends LSU Passive-Aggressive Email Warning Of Contract Breach According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Clemson general counsel Chip Hood sent an email to LSU on Friday warning the school of a potential contract breach if Harris and Wright play. The email reportedly informs the Tigers (of LSU) of “certain eligibility” issues that may break “contractual obligations between the two parties.” The obligations are “not relieved by the ongoing disputes,” the email states, referring to the near-daily court proceedings that have affected Harris and Wright’s eligibility. The strange aspect, however, is that Clemson isn’t backing out of the game. In fact, Clemson isn’t even seeking potential financial damages for breach of contract. Instead, Hood merely stated that the school “supports the position of the NCAA and our conferences regarding the eligibility of professional athletes returning to play college sports.” Surely, that will have LSU quaking in its boots. LSU isn’t just committed to adding Wright and Harris; it may well add former Utah cornerback Blake Cotton, who was recently cut by the Denver Broncos, as well. It’s clear that the school isn’t just committed to winning; it wants to rip the entirety of college football down in the process. And that, above all else, is why fans are angered by the Tigers more than any other program.
