Chiefs shore up OL depth after trade with Giants

Those objectives can only be completed with an adequate offensive line. KC general manager Brett Veach did not do much externally to address the unit in the offseason, but he is making sure to add depth before the start of the regular season. The Chiefs have acquired guard Joshua Ezeudu in a trade with the New York Giants. Kansas City is sending a 2028 seventh-round draft pick to the Meadowlands in exchange for the fifth-year lineman, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Ezeudu played primarily on the interior at North Carolina before the G-Men tried to covert him to tackle. The results suggest he is much better equipped at guard, which head coach John Harbaugh recognized after joining the franchise. It will be interesting to see how Andy Reid and the Chiefs intend to use him. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound Ezeudu will turn 27 in September but still has a little time left to solidify himself as a functional NFL talent. He will need to stay healthy, though. The 2022 third-rounder played in only 33 games with the Giants and was sidelined the entire 2025 campaign with a calf injury. He got banged up in New York’s last preseason game and missed a couple of practices this week, but KC obviously believes he will be fine. Although Ezeudu seemed to be in line for a roster spot, Harbaugh indicated that the team is always interested in stockpiling draft picks. Newfound offensive line depth gives the Giants the luxury to shop some of their fringe players. Are they getting a bit too trigger-happy, however? Time will tell. The Chiefs can certainly use more reinforcements and will give the Tar Heels standout a closer look before their Sept. 14 season opener. They invested almost $29 million guaranteed in Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III and are inclined to ease Mahomes back into action following his season-ending knee injury. Ergo, bolstering the inside is crucial. Joshua Ezeudu will try to lock down a slot and get himself ready to man the O-Line whenever Kansas City calls his name.
