Paul Finebaum is known to give his opinion and doesn’t care if it comes off as cruel. The longtime college football analyst delivered a brutal assessment of Belichick’s short tenure with the Tar Heels, criticizing both his personality and his ability to adjust to the college game. “I’m not pulling for Bill Belichick,” Finebaum said. “He’s a grouch. He’s a bully, and his career in college is about to go down in flames.” “He’s one of the worst college football coaches in a short period of time I have ever seen,” Finebaum concluded. “And I see no way this is going to be a successful landing or ending for Belichick.” North Carolina takes on TCU this Saturday for a Week 0 matchup. It’s still shocking that North Carolina was even willing to go this route. “He couldn’t accept that nobody in the NFL wanted him anymore,” Finebaum later said. Recruiting, transfer-portal management and connecting with younger players are all major parts of the job. Finebaum clearly believes Belichick has failed to make that transition. It’s been a short example, but Belichick must start producing results before North Carolina’s ambitious experiment turns into an expensive failure.
