We spent an unusually long period in the vineyard, much longer than at other estates. Siro Pacenti Brunello di Montalcino DOCG · Montalcino Siro Pacenti is one of the most admired and under-the-radar influential estates in Montalcino: a small, family-run producer whose wines have earned a devoted global following without ever sacrificing their deeply personal character. The estate was established in 1970 when Siro Pacenti purchased a property in the Pelagrilli locality north of Montalcino, planting vineyards in the fresh, clay-rich soils of the land overlooking Siena that remain in production today. In 1988 his son Giancarlo took over management and began bottling Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino under the family label for the first time. In the early 1990s the estate expanded to include land at Piancornello south of Montalcino (where Giancarlo's maternal grandfather had planted five hectares in the late 1960s in mineral-rich soils) adding a crucial second terroir expression to the portfolio. All 54 acres are planted exclusively with Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello).
