Ravens place Pro Bowl DT on PUP list

The Baltimore Ravens opened training camp by placing six players on the active physically unable to perform (PUP) list, headlined by two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike as the team manages his return from last season’s serious neck injury. Madubuike has not appeared in a game since suffering the injury during Week 2 of the 2025 season against the Cleveland Browns. He later underwent neck surgery in April, and after months of rehabilitation, he has now been cleared to practice by independent spine and cervical specialists. Baltimore’s decision to place Madubuike on the active/PUP list is not a setback. The team plans to monitor his conditioning and gradually ease him back into football activities, with expectations that he could be activated and begin practicing as early as next week. The Ravens’ first full-squad training camp practice is scheduled for Wednesday. General manager Eric DeCosta recently said Madubuike’s recovery was “pointed in the right direction,” and the latest medical clearance is another huge milestone. The 28-year-old has spent much of the offseason training at the team’s facility while working toward his return after an injury that threatened his career. Madubuike remains a pivotal piece of Baltimore’s defense. He earned a four-year, $98 million contract after recording 13 sacks during the 2023 season and is still the NFL’s seventh-highest-paid interior defensive lineman. His absence last year coincided with the Ravens finishing with just 30 sacks, the third-fewest in the league. Baltimore also placed defensive linemen Travis Jones and John Jenkins, linebacker Teddye Buchanan, outside linebacker Adisa Isaac and cornerback Bilhal Kone on the PUP list. Jones, who underwent pectoral surgery, is expected to return early in camp after leading the team’s defensive linemen with 47 tackles in 2025. He also signed a three-year extension late last season. Jenkins, 37, played every game last season and logged 523 defensive snaps before signing a one-year extension. Meanwhile, Buchanan is continuing his recovery from a December knee injury after finishing third on the team with 93 tackles as a rookie. Isaac, a 2024 third-round pick, has played only four games across two injury-filled seasons following elbow surgery, while Kone missed his entire rookie campaign after tearing both his MCL and ACL during the preseason.
