Mets’ Juan Soto gets concerning injury update after landing on IL again

The New York Mets are suffering through a disastrous season, and they find themselves in last place in the National League East. They appear to be buried in that position. The Washington Nationals have a 52-52 record and are in fourth place in the division, a full 9.0 games ahead of the Mets. Instead of challenging the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies for first place, the Mets have buried themselves with poor defensive play and a lack of clutch hitting. The Mets have also had their share of injuries, and those issues are continuing as superstar outfielder Juan Soto is back on the Injured List with a calf strain. This same issue sidelined Soto earlier this year, but this calf strain appears to be more serious than the one that prevented him from playing for two weeks. Interim manager Andy Green classified this injury as Grade 2, and that means he may be out for a longer period. Soto made the National League All-Star team earlier this month. He is slashing .283/.408/.539 with 21 home runs and 52 runs batted in. He has struck out 48 times and leads the Mets with 63 bases on balls. The Mets are just 3-7 in their last 10 games and they have struggled when playing at Citi Field. They are just 23-29 when playing at home. The Mets are in the early stages of a 10-game home stand. After dropping a 4-2 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night, they have two more games against the tw0-time defending World Series champions. A 3-game series against the Atlanta Braves follows before they close out the homestand with 4 games against the Miami Marlins.
