Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes consulted with Tom Brady after tearing ACL, LCL
For the first time since the 2014 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs failed to return to the NFL postseason, finding themselves eliminated from contention following their Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. They also experienced another blow during that loss, as quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL, ending his season and forcing him to undergo months of physical rehabilitation. Mahomes recently explained that he consulted with former NFL quarterback Tom Brady during the early stages of his rehab. Like Mahomes, Brady suffered a similar injury in 2008. “I talked to Tom early in the process, because he had the same injury, a very similar injury that I had,” Mahomes said Friday via The Score. Additionally, Mahomes spoke with former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu and veteran tight end Zach Ertz, the latter of whom also suffered a torn ACL. “We kind of had like competitions on where we were at, and where we were rehabbing,” Mahomes said of his conversations with Ertz. He added: “It keeps the competition going because it’s a long process, and you feel like sometimes you’re lonely because you’re doing stuff by yourself, and you’re just competing against yourself. So it gave me someone else that I can compete with to push my competitive drive.” The good news for Mahomes and the Chiefs is that he was cleared to fully participate in practice Friday ahead of the start of Training Camp. Last season, he threw for a total of 3,587 passing yards while accumulating 22 passing touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
