Boy Killed, Two Men Wounded in Stabbing Attack in El Monte

A boy was fatally stabbed and two men were wounded during an altercation in El Monte, authorities said Saturday. The attack was originally reported about 1 p.m. Friday in the 2600 block of North Potrero Avenue, but was later corrected to the 9700 block of Fern Street, a couple of blocks east of Rosemead Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff’s officials said the El Monte Police Department was notified by a local hospital after three stabbing victims arrived at the emergency department for treatment. The boy was pronounced dead at the hospital and the two men had stable vital signs. Descriptions of the victims, including the boy’s age, were not available. “Investigators are still working to determine whether more than one suspect was involved,” an El Monte Police Department statement said. “Currently, there is no suspect description available, and the investigation is ongoing.” Anyone with information about the stabbing was urged to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500.
