EarFun Clip 2 Open Ear Wireless Earbuds REVIEW – Can’t Go Wrong

The $79.99 USD EarFun Clip 2 have been provided by the manufacturer for my review – and I thank them for that. You can get them here. The Clip 2 are relaxed, and balanced sounding, comfortable earbuds that may stick out against their tough competition by their smoothness. They surely will become crowd pleasers. PROS Great sound Comfortable Great value CONS None at this price Introduction We are lately getting swamped with open earbuds – and happily so: a design that is reminiscent of clip-on earrings. The earpieces sit at the lower back of the ear with round speakers resting on top of the ear canals. This may be favoured by people who do not like their ear canals plugged, be it for comfort or because they do need to stay in contact with the ambient world. Clip-ons are a relatively new invention replacing the “Sennheiser type flathead earbuds” of the “olden days” (since 2001). The problem of these flatheads was that they were sitting at the wrong angle on the ear canals, which resulted in a low of bass response. The clip-ons have more low-end, and also a smaller contact area for more comfort. Product Page/Purchase Link: my earfun.com Physical Things and Usability In the box are the two clip-ons in their case, a USB cable, and the usual paperwork. In the box… Charge case with earpieces. That pinhead LED indicates charge levels. As with all the other clip-ons, the Clip 2’s earpieces are so comfortable that you don’t really feel them. There is a well organized free app that offers the usual EQ presets (Pop, Rock, Classical, proprietary settings by some “influencers”), and a 10-channel parametric equalizer. Sonics These Clip 2 are really pleasant on my ears with their very disciplined, accurate, relaxed, smooth presentation. The tonality is dosed right across the frequency spectrum: not fatiguing and also not boring. A great balance. Notes are well composed with a realistic decay and well defined leading edges, there’s nothing splashy. In the app’s default setting, the bass is slightly lifted to add some warmth to the image, which also adds a good depth to the already wide stage. Soundstage is surprisingly wide but not very deep, with quite an impressive headroom. Notes are not as dry as in some other clip ons, I use them (a lot) for both music and spoken-word podcasts. All this makes for non-clinical however accurate delivery. Very enjoyable – and likely a crowd pleaser. Microphone Test Propaganda EarFun keep sending us propaganda material that aims to demonstrate that their gear is better than the more expensive competition despite their lower price. In the EarFun Air Pro 4+ /Apple AirPods Pro 3 case, this was not warranted, though the Pro 4+ are good, enjoyable earphones and excellent value for money. As to the table below, I cannot comment at all as I don’t know any of these competitors, Loomis has reviewed the Bose. But at least Earfun and Bose have always been friendly, whereas Shokz sit on a high horse and keep ignoring us, possibly out of fear not being competitive. There are other, lower-priced competitors to the Clip 2, which this table does not show, for example the TOZO Open Earring, the Baseus Inspire XC1, and the SOUNDPEATS Clip 1. All of these are very good, too, in their own right, and it would be cumbersome for me to nitpick them apart. Where the Clip 2 score is probably on their balance and smoothness. In terms of tonality, the Clip 2 are similar to the TOZO Open Earring, but play wider, airier, and more open….and LOUDER, which justifier their price difference. The TOZOs are denser, drier, and quieter. The difference is not so noticeable for podcasts and spoken word, but obvious when playing music. One thing for sure: EarFun’s model numbers are ALWAYS one figure ahead of the competition’s. The EARFUN Clip 2 are well made, well tuned clip-ons that will please everybody. Concluding Remarks The EarFun Clip 2 are excellent Open Ear earbuds at an affordable price that join a pool of similarly good competitors. Their pleasant, balanced, relaxed presentation will appeal to anyone. They certainly do to my ears. I rate these above the already very good EarFun Air Pro 4+ in ears. The Clip 2 are crowd pleasers. Can’t go wrong with them. Until next time…keep on listening! Found this article useful? Share it on Social Media: 462 Reviews – A World Class Earphone DatabaseCheck out our other earphone reviews.
