Brown University Health restructures leadership, 1 leader exits

Providence, R.I.-based Brown University Health has restructured leadership across its two Massachusetts hospitals, appointing two new leaders amid one executive departure. Five things to know: 1. Julie Abilheira, RN, was appointed president of St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River, Mass., and Morton Hospital in Taunton, Mass., a health system spokesperson said in a statement shared with Becker’s. She joined the system in 2000 and most recently served as senior vice president of medicine, cancer, radiation oncology and dermatology. 2. Carole Billington, MSN, RN, president and chief nursing officer of St. Anne’s, will leave the hospital, according to the statement. “We are deeply grateful for her decades of dedicated service, leadership and devotion to the hospital’s patients and the Fall River community,” the spokesperson said. 3. Heidi Taylor was named COO and CFO of St. Anne’s Hospital and Morton Hospital. She most recently served as president and vice president of finance at Morton Hospital and brings more than two decades of healthcare experience. 4. The realignment is part of the system’s continued integration efforts in Massachusetts. “These changes are designed to strengthen operational alignment, enhance financial stewardship, and support long-term stability while advancing our integrated system-wide care model,” the spokesperson said. 5. Brown University Health — then known as Lifespan — purchased the hospitals in a $175 million definitive agreement and assumed operations Oct. 1, 2024. The acquisition was part of Dallas-based Steward Health Care’s May 2024 bankruptcy. The spokesperson said the Massachusetts hospitals remain an important part of the health system. “We remain focused on ensuring continuity of care, supporting our employees and physicians, and continuing to provide high-quality care to the communities we serve,” the spokesperson said. Becker’s has reached out to Ms. Billington for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.
