New owners of P’Town’s Crown & Anchor give an update on its delayed relaunch
The Pool at The Crown and Anchor The new owners of the beloved Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, Massachusetts, have issued an update on its relaunch. As we reported in December, this well-known hotel and entertainment venue is being bought by Tryst Hospitality. The company was founded by businessman Tristan Schukraft. He owns The Abbey in West Hollywood, a large chunk of the commercial space on Fire Island, and the gay-centered Tryst Hotel in Puerto Vallarta. As part of the acquisition, the 17-room hotel will be reborn as The Tryst Provincetown, with the associated cabaret rooms and bars remaining part of the facility. Back in December, the plan was for the Crown & Anchor to continue to operate under its existing owners until New Year’s Eve. It would then take its seasonal closure until April, during which time it would undergo remodelling and updates. In recent weeks, those wishing to book for the upcoming summer season found themselves unable to do so and had no idea of what was going on. The Tryst group has now issued an update. It appears the acquisition process took longer than expected. Phased reopening “Originally expected to take ownership of the property last fall, Tryst Hospitality ultimately took over nearly five months later than anticipated, compressing renovation timelines ahead of the summer season,” says a press statement. “Rather than rush a full opening, the company will roll spaces online throughout the summer while continuing upgrades across the property.” This means that the hotel will not be operational for the 2026 summer season. However, all the other parts of the business will undergo a phased reopening over the coming months. The Crown & Anchor in Provincetown One of the priorities is updating staff housing. Some of the previous Crown & Anchor staff are returning to their positions and the Tryst group is also in the process of recruiting new team members. “Look, she’s an old girl,” said Tristan Schukraft, founder of Tryst Hospitality, in a statement. “I could either slap some paint on everything and pretend it was finished or take the time to do this right. I chose to do it right. Provincetown, and the people who make the Crown & Anchor magical, deserve that.” Entertainment spaces to open first The Vault, The Paramount, and Wave Bar will reopen in late May. Wave Bar will debut upgrades throughout the summer, while the Courtyard will initially operate as a cocktail-focused outdoor gathering space, perfect for afternoon drinks and late-night mingling. Paramount will debut some new weekly events, including JUNK – a Friday night underwear party. This may be replaced during certain big theme weeks. There will also be a new restaurant, with a drag brunch a staple every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. “This summer is a little scrappier, a little sexier, and honestly very Provincetown,” said Schukraft. “The important thing is that the Crown is alive again.” The bigger renovation of the hotel side of the operation will happen during the next off-season. “This season is about reopening the heart of the property,” said Schukraft. “Next season is when the real transformation begins.” Provincetown summer season 2026 Aerial view of Provincetown (Photo: Rod Clement Photography/Shutterstock) The Provincetown summer season doesn’t have an official start date, but most consider the Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial kick-off.
