By BlahLaLa in "Boston Moving Day conundrum " on Ask MeFi

You know, I have to say that I happened to look at Metatalk and see the thing about Metafilter on Reddit, and I hopped over there just in time to see the people there making fun of this question and me. Huh. I really feel like this is an authentic ask, but I guess to defend myself, let me say that I myself have had the great good fortune not to have moved since literally the mid-90s. At that time, Mr. Blah and I didn't own much and we were able to do it ourselves, plus we had a full month of overlap between the purchase of our first home and our old rental lease expiring. And KidBlah, who is really wonderful, is straight out of undergrad and working a 70-80 hour week + travel more weeks than not, and is 3000 miles away from here, and doesn't know how to handle it since it's his first-ever move, with the added difficulty of Boston's famous Moving Day. Under those circumstances, I don't think it's particularly idiotic for me to ask this question, even if someone on Reddit has a hot take on my use of the word "conundrum."It feels really shitty for people to be making fun of me, even if they're anonymous, but I guess I'll just have to get over that. I sure wish I hadn't seen that. I feel like I contribute to this community, and I don't feel that this ask was out of line, or particularly stupid. As a matter of fact, I don't think it's learned helplessness, as someone over there said. I think it's the opposite of that: admitting that there's something we don't know how to do and asking for someone to teach me so that I can then do it. I'll close by saying an authentic thank-you to those who have offered suggestions and solutions.
