Matt Cardona Breaks Silence On WWE Losing Streak

Matt Cardona is staying determined despite his ongoing losing streak on SmackDown and growing fan criticism over the way WWE has booked his return. Following his previous WWE release, Cardona completely reinvented himself on the independent wrestling scene, becoming one of the biggest names outside the company. His success away from WWE sparked heavy fan support for a comeback. That eventually led to appearances in NXT before Cardona officially signed a new WWE contract earlier this year. Given how much his profile had grown during his time away, expectations for his return were incredibly high. Although Cardona received a strong reaction from fans when he came back, that momentum has not translated into victories on television. Rather than being placed in a major storyline, he has largely been used in supporting roles. After suffering another defeat on the May 8, 2026 episode of SmackDown, Cardona took to Twitter with a passionate message aimed at critics questioning his future in WWE. He wrote, “It took me almost 6 years to get back to @WWE… You think losing some matches is going to stop me? LOL. It’s not over until I quit…and that’s never going to happen. I’M NOT FINISHED.” Cardona picked up another loss on last week’s episode of SmackDown when he was defeated by Ricky Saints in singles action. Despite putting together a competitive performance and nearly securing the win, Saints ultimately finished him off with the Roshambo. The defeat continued a difficult stretch for the former Zack Ryder. Since defeating Kit Wilson in his return match back in January, Matt Cardona has gone 0-6, with most of those losses coming against rising stars and established names on the SmackDown roster.
